The Farm

Solstedt Organics is a Certified Organic farm that sits on the side of a mountain, 12 miles from the town of Lytton, BC. It is off-grid, solar-powered and very remote. We have gravity fed water from a glacier-fed creek to drink, swim in and irrigate our gardens and orchards.

“Solstedt” means “sun home” in old Norse. I am descended from Vikings and when changing the farm name from Sapo Bravo Organics, wanted something that reflected my ancestry. I have been farming here since 2016, when I purchased the land from the previous farmers.

This land is a small pocket of ALR land, surrounded by Lytton First Nation’s reserve land and crown land. It has been farmed for over 30 years, the last 25 as a certified organic farm. Lytton regularly is recorded as “Canada’s Hot Spot” in the summer and this climate allows me to grow heat loving annuals as well as succulent tree fruit.

I am the only full-time employee of the farm and every year I welcome apprentices who learn and work with me for the season and Wwoofers who typically come from all over the world. I could not achieve what I do without all the wonderful people who have enjoyed a season or more at Solstedt.

The farm is certified through NOOA.
